on Using Concrete Details - English 111
Amy to Classmates
Dear Classmates,
The sentence that caught
my eye [in "The Teacher Who Changed My Life" by Nicholas Gage]
and my attention was, "The portly, well-dressed man who met me
and my sisters seemed a foreign, authoritarian figure." The reason
I liked this sentence was for the simple fact that I could see Nicholas'
dad in my head. It was such a clear vision. I could see him and
I could hear his voice in my head.
Sincerely,
Amy
Michelle to Amy
Hello Amy, Yes, I agree with
you about the use of decriptive words used by Mr. Gage. I was able to
get a mental picture of the characters as well as the scenery
around them
. I believe this is what he was looking for when
he composed it. An essay that readers could relate to whether they
themselves had ever been in a situation such as his or simply were there
via his writings.
