Assessing Electronic Discussions

Not all electronic discussions are alike and therefore should not all be assessed alike. Let students know in advance how you will assess each activity.

  1. For writing-to-learn activities, consider giving credit rather than grades.
    • Check systems such as check or not or slightly more elaborate with check-plus and check-minus
    • Point systems
      • 1 for acceptable, 0 for unacceptable
      • 3 for outstanding, 2 for good, 1 for okay, 0 for unacceptable
  2. For graded or ungraded discussions, here is a detailed rubric from A. Nadine Nader-Delta College
