I would like to recommend an epistolary pedagogy, to encourage the use of the letter as a tool for thinking about literature as well as a way to form learning communities for literary study. Through some examples from my own experience using letters-- originally with pen and paper and for the past decade with computers in classrooms and for the past few years as the primary approach for online classes--I want to suggest to you that writing and reading letters is a valuable way to teach and to learn literature and that electronic mail facilitates the application of this epistolary pedagogy.
