Curriculum

I intend to continue my education at the university level where I am currently majoring in electrical/computer engineering. In our world today, computers and computer technology is quickly becoming an essential part of almost everything being done. The use of a computer is frequently becoming the standard in many big companies, as is the use of the Internet and World Wide Web. Thus, there is a great need for people who know how a computer functions and operates, in addition to possessing the ability to expand on its future potentials. As a result, electrical/computer engineering is a very exciting career in which to become involved. However, to be successful in whatever one does, one has to be willing to do more than just what is required. One has to do more than just learn the "technical" side of engineering to be a good engineer, which is one of the main reasons I am taking Humanities 105. By looking at the "other" side -- the liberal arts side -- and seeing how it is deeply interconnected with engineering and technology, I will be developing a better perspective of the world and becoming a better engineer in the process.

Career

I intend to pursue a career in engineering. I have always wondered with a deep curiosity why things work the way they work and how things in our world specifically function, especially when those things involve computers and electronics. This curiosity is one of the main reasons I would like to become an engineer. An engineer possesses a desire to understand how all things in our world work and function. He or she then uses and applies that knowledge in so many ways: making a bridge strong enough for earthquakes, creating shuttles and probes that gather information from planets millions of miles away, and even designing a global telecommunications system. From my first experience with Nintendo to the first time I sat in front of a computer, I am convinced that an engineering career will give me the best opportunity to utilize my knowledge and skills in a world of ever-changing, ever-developing and ever-impressive technology.
