Hi!
Im KC M, and Im currently working as an area service representative for the Tennant Company, a manufacturer of industrial and commercial floor scrubbing and sweeping equipment. I am working toward a degree in computer science, with an eye toward a career change in the future. My goal is to get a BS in Computer Science, and to work in the network engineering field.
I first learned about on-line classes by reading the TCC course catalogue. I decided to take an on-line course because of the flexibility it allows me with regard to scheduling my time. Like so many today, I have to search for ways to juggle family responsibilities, work, and school. An on-line course seems like a good way to make efficient use of my time. This is my first on-line course, but I hope it will not be my last.
I think technology is the practical application of theory. In other words, it is an idea, or combination of ideas, transformed into something real, which improves an existing process or creates a new one.
Technology affects my life everyday. Much of the equipment I work on uses technology that was unheard of even five years ago. I cant imagine living without such commonplace (today) things such as personal computers, email, answering machines, cell phones, pagers, and many more.
The term "liberal arts" encompasses such things as literature, music, theatre, art and dance.
Art affects my life by helping to mold my attitude. Music, for example, can relax me. It can bring back memories (good or bad). I can read a good book, and later certain parts of that book will re-surface in my mind. This can serve to guide, warn, amuse, or anger me. Art also leads to technological advances.
Technology and the arts intersect in many ways. Look at Jules Vernes _ 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea_. His vision of the future helped lead to developments and improvements in submarines that we now take for granted. Television and movies, so commonplace today, are largely the result of the intersection of technology (film, video, etc.,) and art (literature and theatre).
